Almost Famous

I know the blog has been very BabyCakes-heavy lately, but that's just how it goes sometimes.
Sometimes I get lots of good shots of BigBoy, sometimes BabyCakes, and almost never the two of them together. Today it was BabyCakes.

I bought this little dress at Gymboree at the end of the season last year and took a guess at what size she would be. I was right! I paid $3.99 and used gymbucks and a gift card to pay for all the clothes I bought that day. I looked at my receipt (it was with this dress) and I calculated that I ended up paying $1.25 per item after tax, out-of-pocket. Not too shabby if I do say so myself. :)

I wasn't sure if I liked this dress that much when I bought it but I also bought a purple coat and also jeans in the same line and I love them on her.
I guess you never know until you see it on a child.

The hairbow (of course) came from a pack of four I bought at Target during my bow-binge weekend. Matches. perfectly. :)

The dress has a guitar on it. I don't know how much of a rock star she is but J and I are already her biggest fans.

Good morning!
Again, THANK YOU to my wonderful friends for all your support!
I look forward to sharing with you.

So, last night -- Halloween.
BigBoy was supposed to be a chocolate Darth Vader. (I think "chocolate" just because he likes chocolate -- never knew how that was supposed to work its way into his costume.)
I was actually excited and looking forward to trick-or-treating.

Then life happened. I'm not going into details but it was one of those times you have to go through on your threat to punish, even if you don't want to.
We HATED to do it, but we had to take away trick-or-treating. Big fat BOO.

BabyCakes wore her ducky outfit we borrowed from Biz for all of 5 minutes while we returned the Darth stuff to Miss Stacy next door.

So yeah, we could've had better evenings.

On a positive note, the only candy I ate all night was a fun-size twizzler. :)

I just want to take a second to thank those of you who contacted me with your support.
It means a lot!
I'm going to share a bit every week and hopefully I won't be the only person learning.

"HAPPY HALLOWEEN!"

One block at a time

That's how we get there. Get where? Everywhere.

I could spend more time to make this a clever, well-written post, but instead I'm going to just move along and get it done.

I want your help. I am in the process, let me emphasis process, of changing my eating habits and overall relationship with food. I'm not on a diet to fit into a certain dress or bathing suit.
I know that if I don't do something soon, I will end up a diabetic with heart disease and then one day my children will very likely share the same struggles. That might sound dramatic, but only if you don't know my family.

I've been on the Weight Watchers plan for 7 weeks and did very well at first. Down 17 pounds and feeling good, I forgot that it is a daily, hourly choice for me. I put myself on cruise and didn't to stay alert.
I'm off track. I've gained back almost 2 pounds. The pounds don't matter except that they reflect my actions. I actively gained those pounds. (remember the m&m breakfast?)

I know the holidays are coming and if it isn't a holiday it's something else because that's life. I'm lucky enough to have plenty of food options at all times. I struggle with those options, though.

This is what I want from you. I want to be able to talk about my struggles and successes on here. I want you to comment on what I say occasionally. Tell me how you feel or just tell me... something.
I am stumbling and asking for a hand. It is embarrassing but I don't care. It is important enough for me to humble myself and share this now.

Let me be clear: I don't have a weight-loss goal. I don't even have a scale in my house. I do weigh-in at my weekly WW meetings, but that's it.
If ya'll welcome it, I will share my weekly results with you.

Okay, now who's with me?

Candy has left the building.

Preparing for the onslaught of trick-or-treater's, I recently bought a bag of assorted fun-size m&m's and another bag of random candy. I told myself I wouldn't open them until Halloween but with Granny in town, it was easy to use her as an excuse to break out the chocolate.

Yesterday I had two fun-size bags of M&M's for breakfast. I went in the kitchen and oh-so-quietly snuck them out of the bag on top of the fridge so that BigBoy wouldn't notice what I was doing.
Despicable, I know. That's when I knew the candy had to go somewhere, anywhere, but here until Sunday.

Yes yes, I know you think I'm pathetically weak in will power but I choose to see it as doing what I need to make healthy decisions -- I will no longer have that candy enticing me to spend way more weight watchers points than I have to spare. Hopefully next Halloween I will be able to have the candy in the house without eating five a couple pieces a day.

The kind soul she is, neighbor Melissa offered to hold them for me.
buh-buh m&m's! I am not sorry to see you go, you whiney little creatures!

Kids being kids

Yesterday after dinner and a long day at work, J was trying to relax on the couch but the kids were climbing all over him. Usually he would jump right in and play with them but this time he was really tired and thought he could escape the madness by laying in the floor. I'm not sure how he thought that was going to work...

This is just a little video of the kids being kids.
Nothing out of the ordinary, but thought I'd put it out there at least for the grandparents. :)
