I didn't get much sleep last night but I am trying to clear away the eye gunk and get myself pumped for the day. Today is Duke Gardens Day! The plan (always subject to change with two infants) is to meet Miss Rachel, Biz, and LadyBug later this morning. I hope it works out. I also hope to have some pictures to share this afternoon.

We've had a lot of fun with Biz and her mom over the years. The babies are 9 mos old in this picture. We actually sat them back to back in the swing once but I don't have a picture of that. :( If I remember correctly, Biz was a little like "Boy, you are all up in my space!" :)

Wish us luck! Hopefully the babies will cooperate and nap on the go. BabyCakes sure loves her crib, so it's a gamble. It's worth it, though.

Both my babies at 4 and a half months. I wonder if BabyCakes' eyes will end up gray, too? Looks like she has her brother's lashes. I think this is the chubbiest he has ever looked. :) I know I'm partial but I think they are beautiful. Hopefully I will raise them to be beautiful on the inside, too.

Monday mornin pj lovin

Monday is my big laundry day. After I stripped my bed this morning I asked BigBoy to sit with BabyCakes for a minute while I threw the bedding in the washer. When I came back this is how I found them. When I used to wonder how BigBoy would respond to no longer being an only child, I don't think I could have imagined him loving his sister more.

May 1 Finds

I paid $7 for this blue chair marked at $10. It used to be yellow and then they spray painted the whole thing -- cushion included. ?? Who does that? Anyway, I don't care.

I bought the chair for the quirky details. It's going to go in BabyCakes' room with her desk. Right now the desk is a changing station but that won't be the case forever.
I actually liked the color of the chair - minus the cushion - but in combination with her wall color it was just too much. I put a coat of primer on it today so I hope to have the project complete this week.

This is a large poster frame with a "Tahiti" poster inside. I bought the frame (which looks worse in person) to paint white and use in BigBoy's room. We like to use posters in his room so he can change things up over time (right now we have dolphins and penguins) but I don't like the cheap look of plastic poster frames or not using one period. I think I can use the Tahiti poster in other projects in the future. I like the big postage stamp. This was $2.

I paid $2 for this frame. I think I'll end up using it in my living room but I'm not sure yet. I'm changing a lot of stuff around right now.

This 80's-style mirror I bought for $2 and plan on attacking it with white paint for the frame and chalkboard paint for the glass. I want to hang it on the other side of my bar in the kitchen. I've never used chalkboard paint but I'm really looking forward to this project.

This is another looks-worse-in-person frame I am going to paint for use in BigBoy's room. $2.

I also wanted to mention that all my yardsale finds are currently being stored in my bedroom closet. J hung this 50 cent file holder I bought so I can store magazines with pictures I like/ things for inspiration. If I stack magazines or put them in a drawer I'll forget about them. I still think there is a craft in these pretty magazine covers. I saw one making over clip boards but I don't have a use for a clip board. Any ideas? I also just wanted to show you how much I dislike unused space. This is hung over my laundry basket inside my closet.

Check back later this week for some (hopefully) completed projects. It looks like the rain will finally arrive here tomorrow so my chair may have to wait a bit, though. To my TN/KY people, I hope you dry out soon!

Who needs a teething ring...

when you have a pint glass?
BabyCakes has been drooling more than a St. Bernard lately and hasn't had any interest in a teething ring. She DID, however, have lots of interest in J's milk glass the other night. She got really in to it. Can you see the slobber dripping down the glass?! Yuk-- but sweet at the same time. :)

BigBoy was pretty amused at the scene. I love how interested in her he is. One day she'll get on his nerves, I'm sure. For now I'm enjoying the moments he spontaneously oh-so-gently hugs her and says "you so pretty," while I can.

Bulletin board re-do

$1 corkboard from yardsale.

J cut it in two pieces for me. He says I'm not power-tool certified. I have to agree with him. :) I have another frame I will use for the other half.

A flashy gold frame from a picture I'm no longer using. I didn't have glass for it but held on to it anyway. Glad I did!

A little light sanding and a few coats of white spray paint we already had on hand.

BigBoy helped me cover it with leftover fabric from my bar project. I just used tacks on the back so I can replace the fabric when I find some I like better. I roughed up the frame a bit but not too much because I forgot gold was underneath. :)

I've had this "love" sign I spray-painted white (originally black) to hang over it. I hung the board lower than normal because I wanted children to be able to see it easily. Now they have a place of honor to hang their crafts. I'm mighty happy it only cost me 50 cents, too! (I don't count costs of materials that were bought for another project.)

I forgot to mention this before but it was the bulletin board Miss Rachel put up for Biz and Ladybug that inspired the idea. Thanks Rachel!

Froggy

Yesterday afternoon we did a little yard work. Nothing crazy just mowing, weed-eating, and some weed-pulling. In the process J came across a big frog and he and BigBoy put it in a jar (with air holes of course) for a while. As soon as they came out front with it to show me I of course freaked over the big nasty frog. J knows I HATE frogs. Unfortunately when I started saying "oh gross, get that away from me!" or whatever I squealed, BigBoy did too. Until that moment he was happy with his "Froggy" but I had to go and put my irrational fear on him. As soon as he did this I knew what I had to do. I grabbed the jar and said "No, Sweetie, you just surprised me. Wow, look at that great frog, etc." We took it over to show the neighbor kids who were playing in the cul de sac. They weren't as impressed as we thought they would be. :) The rest of the evening I had to put on a happy face with Froggy and try my hardest to make sure BigBoy wasn't scared when in reality I wanted to cry and puke. Yes, I know that makes me the biggest baby in the world but I HATE HATE HATE frogs!!! At least my maternal instincts took over and kept me from scarring my child.

BigBoy with his weed-eater helping us. He's actually a really good helper. After we sweep the grass along the sidewalk and driveway into piles, he gets the little brush and dust pan and takes it to the pile on the road. Very efficiently, too.

BabyCakes was supervising. She had just woken up from her long afternoon nap and then ate "dinner" so she was content to just chill and keep and eye on us. :)
